WORKSHOPS

The 2008 Annual Meeting is offering a variety of workshops this summer. Each workshop will be offered twice on Saturday. There will be a session and the morning and another one after lunch. The following is the title, description and leader/s for each one.

“Can These Dry Bones Live?”: God is still speaking and is calling us to enter into a new promised land of land of exciting, authentic, Biblical worship! Come and learn how you can bring new life to your worship experience. Come and experiences how you might move from “fill in the blanks” worship to creating an encounter with the Divine.

Bringing Curriculum to Life!: This workshop will help you look at your prepared curriculum in a new way and stimulate you to create some innovative teaching methods of your own for both children and Adults of your Christian Education program. Through the use of easy-to-find and in expensive props and simple crafts, your lessons will become more memorable and stimulating experiences for your students and more enjoyable for you to present. The class includes a generous packet of samples and patterns for each participant.

Making Missions Meaningful: This workshop will help participants learn to identify needs in their communities and beyond and provide practical ways to develop and implement mission outreach programs.

Celebrate Joyfully, Give Generously: This workshop will help participants develop a theology of generosity, and guide participants through a learning process on how to talk and ask for stewardship and money in ways that enhance giving to the church.

The Mystery of Media: This workshop will share information on how to incorporate media into the worship service in ways that enhance the worship experience. This workshop will be a “how to get started” session with special attention given to churches that have limited resources and smaller memberships.

“We Having a Baby Shower”: Come and meet our new “babies” (new church starts)
of the South Central Conference. You are invited to see how our babies are growing up and how we can support their growth. This workshop is sponsored by the South Central Church Development Committee.

Who and What Are Opening and Affirming Churches and People?: The workshop
will be for people interested in learning more about the Opening and Affirming program, and the process by which churches become ONA. It will cover things like: how churches become ONA, why declaring yourself ONA matters, a history of the ONA program, resources, what churches do once they become ONA.
